Leadership Fog, and other weather patterns

Sometimes leadership is just another word for

Thinking thoughts about Leadership Fog and other weather conditions…

1.       When does assertive vision step on the toes of consensus interaction?  Is there a time and an arena to dialogue and ask questions of the body, and how do you know when that becomes counterproductive?

2.       Running up the hill, yelling “Come on!  Follow the flag!  This way!”  sometimes only makes you hoarse.

3.       At what point do you decide that the distant rumbling thunder is not the sound of the victorious army returning, but the hoping-to-be-victorious enemy coming?  Especially when they are still around the bend?

4.       It seems to me that when we measure the distance our various dreams are to God’s heart, our own always end up much closer than anyone else’s.  Funny thing, that…

5.       What is the best way to figure out if you should stand up in the bleachers and head on up and out to use the retroom, grab a cola, or something, or head down and in and onto the playing field and get involved, without getting thrown out of the game?

6.       (The leader as consultant) Is it ever OK to say to oneself “they know I’m here.  If they want me to help they can ask me.”

7.       Memories of the past that have harmony, peace and advance sometimes need to outweigh and become the driving force, instead of letting the future be of chaos capitulation and retreat.  Is there some way to balance the past with the future?  So both can feel some sense of a win?

8.       Do we ever figure any of this stuff out?  And can we ever pass it on in a way that allows the next guy to have his or her own insight and leading?

9.       Sometimes we can only understand our forward progress when we look back at our footprints.  But not too much!

10.   As Jonathan said, more or less, long ago:  Let’s roll.  Perhaps the Lord will act on our behalf.

Happy leading and thinking…
